Ironwood Electronics’ new GT-BGA-2159 socket Ironwood Electronics’ new GT-BGA-2159 socket uses high performance elastomer capable of 94 GHz with less than 1 dB of insertion loss, very low inductance, and wide temperature applications. The BGA socket is designed for 19×19 mm package size and has a clamshell lid with adjustable knob. The contact resistance is typically 30 milliohms per pin. The socket is mounted on the target PCB with no soldering and uses very little space, allowing capacitors and resistors to be placed close by. Other passive components can be placed on the back side of the PCB by creating custom cutouts in the stiffener plate. The socket is constructed with an adjustable compression mechanism with an integrated spring loaded compression plate for quick insertion so that IC’s can be changed out quickly. To use, place the device inside the socket, close the clamshell lid and apply downward pressure by turning the knob from open to test.

TE Connectivity (TE) launched its Unmanned Power (UMP) connectorTE Connectivity (TE) launched its Unmanned Power (UMP) connector which offers up to 80 amps per contact and is available as a power or mixed signal/power connector. The growth of UAV usage in the industrial and aerospace markets and increased need for high power connectors led TE’s engineers to design the UMP connector. Current market connectors commonly used in UAV and commercial drones have experienced challenges with amp rating, connector size, and mixed signal variations, often having to sacrifice one benefit for the other. TE’s UMP connector is designed to provide a reliable contact interface that safely delivers power or power and signal to control rotors, battery systems, and power distribution systems of unmanned vehicles. TE’s UMP connectors withstand harsh environments using high temperature materials, crimp pigtail assembly (with high grade flexible silicone wire), integrated power (with two or three position power options), mixed signal options, and a smaller bulkhead mount (compared to competing connectors).

BIRNS has announced unique new reverse-gender (RG) contact configurations in its 6km-rated Millennium connector seriesBIRNS has announced unique new reverse-gender (RG) contact configurations in its 6 km-rated Millennium connector series. These custom-engineered connectivity solutions provide flexibility and enhanced safety and security options for subsea system designers who prefer that a power source use sockets versus pins in the receptacle. This can improve safety and further protect against mechanical damage or electrical shorts in specific application designs. One subsea example for which this might be preferable is Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs), which provide power to the thrusters on certain ROVs.

Douglas Electrical Components manufactures a line of hermetic Micro-D connector feedthroughsDouglas Electrical Components manufactures a line of hermetic Micro-D connector feedthroughs for a variety of applications. These feedthroughs create a plug-and-play electrical connection for vacuum systems. With Micro-D connectors on both sides of the feedthrough, engineers and system integrators save time and effort, eliminating the need for soldering miniature connector wires or solder cups. Manufactured with a stainless-steel or aluminum housing, this hermetic Micro-D connector feedthrough line seals with a standard Viton+ O-ring; the housing is designed with O-ring grooves on either side of the housing to be fully reversible and simplify installation. The feedthrough is designed with electroless nickel plated aluminum shell connectors. The connectors are pinned straight through the housing, such that Pin 1 on the vacuum connector is fed to Socket 1 on the atmospheric side. Standard leak rate is < 1×10-8 cc He/sec with higher performance available.  All standard Micro-D pin counts and connectors are available.

November 2021 New Connectivity Products > Wire, Cable, and Cable Assemblies

Amphenol RF FAKRA to SMAAmphenol RF has added standard and waterproof IP‐rated cable assemblies with TNC and RP‐TNC configurations and FAKRA to SMA cable assemblies to its portfolio. The IP-rated assemblies use 1.13 mm micro coax cable and feature the ultraminiature AMC4 connector on one end. The other end is terminated with either a TNC or RP‐TNC rear mount bulkhead jack, with standard or IP67 sealed options. Additional configurations feature RG‐178 coax cable and utilize the ultraminiature AMC connector to a TNC or RP‐TNC rear mount bulkhead jack. These new assemblies are ideal for applications where space is a concern such as GPS units, external metering stations or ruggedized tablets. The FAKRA to SMA cable assemblies combine the automotive industry-standard FAKRA connector with the popular SMA connector designed to accommodate applications such as antennas, RFID, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and utilize the snap-on FAKRA interface on one end and the threaded SMA interface on the other. FAKRA connectors offer a rugged, impact resistant body with mechanically keyed and color-coded housings that meet all automotive industry USCAR-17 standards. The SMA connector allows for easy connect and disconnect along with its compact size which adds to this assembly’s versatile usage from commercial to industrial applications. They are ideal for automotive applications that involve connecting to external antennas including GPS, drones, and 360° cameras.

SV Microwave released female bulkhead RF cable assembliesSV Microwave released female bulkhead RF cable assemblies used to transmit a signal through a panel using a single mounting hole. November 2021 New Connectivity Products > Sensors and Antennas

Infinite Electronics Radio Waves KP-RW AntennasRadioWaves released a new series of 8-port CBRS Sector Antennas covering the 3.3 GHz to 4.2 GHz frequency bands that provide gain of 16 to 18 dBi along with a 65° beamwidth. These antennas are engineered to deliver high, stable gain over wide bandwidths and suppress side-lobes and back-lobes for mitigating inter-sector interference. These models are engineered to be symmetric in both polarizations to minimize chain imbalance. The 17 dB side lobe suppression and superior dB front-to-back ratio allows for channel (frequency) reuse and high levels of spectral efficiency in the most challenging and noisy environments. They also feature 8 x 8 MIMO operation, eight +/- 45 slant polarization ports with integral N-female connectors all in a single enclosure. They come equipped with superior port isolation, cross polarization discrimination, gain, VSWR, and front-to-back. Additionally, these new antennas feature universal radio brackets that are compatible with many popular Cambium PMP/EPMP, Ubiquiti Rocket/Prism, Mimosa and Baicell radios. For added safety and convenience, the antennas feature an integrated hoisting hook.

SCHURTER’s portfolio of rewireable IEC cord connectorsSCHURTER’s portfolio of rewireable IEC cord connectors, series 4782 (C13, 70 °C) and 4781 (C15, 120 °C), now includes grey and white versions in addition to black. The added colors allow for distinguishing multiphases in data centers. The white color option is also suited for medical applications where a more clinical aesthetic is preferred. The detachable cord connectors are particularly suited for small series builds with varying cable lengths and country-specific plugs, that would otherwise require large order minimums. A protective cable guard with a diameter of 8.5 mm or 10 mm is supplied pre-assembled. The screw terminals accept cables with cross-sections between a minimum of 3 x 0.75 mm2/18 AWG (0.82 mm2) and a maximum of 3 x 1.5 mm2/14 AWG (2.08 mm2). The 4782 and 4781 series are added to an already wide range of SCHURTER rewireable cord connectors according to the new UL 60320 standard. They are safety agency approved for the European, Chinese, Japanese, and North American markets for 10/15 A at 250 VAC. No halogens are used in the cable guard or any other plastic components.
