Amphenol RF SMA connector seriesAmphenol RF expanded its SMA connector series with new cable mount jacks designed to accommodate industry-standard micro-coax 0.81 mm cable. The lightweight, compact, and vibration-proof design makes these connectors ideal for wireless networking, antennas, and any applications with space constraints. These SMA bulkhead jacks are available in the straight crimp configuration with standard and reverse polarity options. The threaded coupling mechanism ensures uniform contact of the outer conductors and enables the SMA connector to minimize reflections and attenuation at higher frequencies for a high degree of mechanical strength and durability. SMA jacks are machined with brass bodies and beryllium copper contacts with gold plating. These connectors are designed to mount with micro-coax cable, which provides additional flexibility and can stabilize the electrical characteristics even if bent. They offer reliable electrical performance up to 6 GHz and are suitable for drones, Test & Measurement equipment, industrial automation and inspection, and Bluetooth and cellular technology.

Smiths Interconnect NXS Series for space applicationsSmiths Interconnect released its new NXS Series, the ultra-high density interconnect specifically designed and tested for critical space flight applications. Today, space satellites are moving away from RF analog-based payloads that provide low-speed telecommunication signaling to a new Digital Transparent Processor architecture for high throughput satellites. This architecture increases the demand for rugged and higher speed connectivity. NXS forms the interconnect backplane that enables a scalable satellite design using as many or as few modular digital processors as required, while ensuring signal integrity and high resistance to shock. The NXS Series is built to the highest space standards and qualified to rigorous testing and performance criteria: ESCC 3401, ESCC 3402, ECSS-Q-ST-70C, ECSS-Q-ST-70-02, ECSS-Q-ST-70-08C, ECSS-Q-ST-70-38C, and ECSS-Q-70-71. It is equipped with micro Hypertac Hyperboloid contact technology and can withstand data rate application up to 10 Gb/s requirements per channel, including extreme levels of vibration, shock, and climatic testing above 2100 G.

October 2021 New Connectivity Products II > Wire, Cable, and Cable Assemblies

Times Microwave Systems introduced PhaseTrack Low SmokeTimes Microwave Systems introduced PhaseTrack Low Smoke (PTLS) microwave cable assemblies for shipboard applications. They provide exceptional phase temperature performance up to 85 ºC. This cable type has the same low-smoke zero-halogen (LSZH) jacket used on Times’ QPL M17 cables for easy cross-reference and qualification. Low-smoke, zero-halogen cable assemblies are essential in confined spaces where air exchange is minimal, such as onboard ships and submarines. Fire is one of the greatest dangers in these environments, as accumulating smoke can obscure visibility for safe evacuation. When burned, low smoke cables emit a less optically dense smoke that releases at a lower rate, making it easier for occupants to exit and protecting the safety of firefighting operations. Halogen-free materials also produce clearer, whiter smoke for better visibility and do not emit halogen’s toxic off-gases.

October 2021 New Connectivity Products II > Sensors and Antennas

Hirose GT21 scaledThe GT21 Series 2.5 GHz high frequency antenna connector from Hirose Electric uses a highly reliable locking mechanism constructed to handle the shock and vibration commonly found in automotive applications. An audible click and visible lock confirmation window confirm complete mating. The connector’s reduced size offers significant space-savings in automotive antenna systems. Employing a one-step crimp termination design, the GT21 Series also reduces assembly time and cost. The crimp termination design enables the cable assembly to be completed without touching the center conductor, which provides precise center conductor positioning and consistent operation. Three termination variations are available, including pin through hole, SMT, and in-line. The antenna connector supports single coaxial, 2-port, 3-port, and 4-port cable terminations. The single coaxial version is offered in four color-coded keying options.

Newark now ships SiGe rectifiers from NexperiaNewark now ships SiGe rectifiers from Nexperia, offering engineers cutting-edge efficiency, thermal stability, and space savings when designing new products. The SiGe rectifiers are available with 120 V, 150 V, and 200 V reverse voltages that combine the high efficiency of their Schottky Diode counterparts with the thermal stability of fast recovery diodes. Targeting automotive, communications infrastructure, and server markets, the 1-3 A SiGe rectifiers are of particular benefit in high ambient temperature applications such as LED lighting, engine control units, or fuel injection systems. Design engineers using the new, extremely low leakage devices can now rely on an extended safe-operating area with no thermal runaway up to 175 °C. At the same time, they can optimize their design for higher efficiency which is not feasible using fast recovery diodes commonly used in such high-temperature designs. By boosting a low forward voltage (Vf) and low Qrr, the SiGe rectifiers have an advantage of 10 to 20% lower conduction losses.
