Molex introduced VaporConnect optical feedthrough modules, a thermal management solution that reduces the time and cost of deploying and upgrading high-performance data centers to meet unrelenting demand for generative AI and machine learning workflows. VaporConnect feedthrough modules address constant increases in data center speed and capacity by leveraging a unique, cassette-based design that bolts directly onto immersion tanks and enables optical transceivers and network cabling infrastructure to be swapped out without changing mechanical interfaces or impacting immersion tank architecture. Reference designs for the new modules will be available commercially in Q1 of 2025. This cassette-based solution for two-phase immersion cooling is designed for plug-and-play deployment to enable easier and faster hyperscale data center upgrades.
Harwin revealed its latest compact and reliable board-to-board connectors for high-performance embedded and industrial designs at the inaugural Embedded World North America exhibition and conference in Austin, Texas. Among the Harwin technologies on show during the event were the durable, high-performance Kontrol series of 1.27 mm pitch PCB connectors, designed for industrial applications, along with the newly introduced Flecto range of fine-pitch, high-pin-count floating connectors. The Kontrol family features flexible, rugged, and space-saving board-to-board and board-to-cable connectors designed to withstand the rigorous demands of industrial applications ranging from factory automation systems to hand-held equipment. Flecto has been specifically designed to address the data and power transfer demands of high-performance applications while providing the positional tolerance needed to support high-speed automated assembly of PCBs with multiple connector pairs.
The new CONNEXIS PCB connectors from Phoenix Contact use crimp contacts and spring wire termination to help manufacturers reduce time and labor costs. The preassembled wire-to-board connectors simplify connection and accelerate automated production. The connectors and headers have integrated coding to prevent mismatching. Phoenix Contact can also provide customer-specific printing options for easier wiring. This precision and connection speed are valuable in robotics, energy storage systems, and building automation applications. The CONNEXIS portfolio includes numerous options for design flexibility. Users can select from horizontal, vertical, and feedthrough orientations, one or two levels, and a range of positions. Three different pitches are available: 2.5 mm (D21), 3.81 mm (D31), and 5.08 mm (D32). Phoenix Contact offers design-in support with M-CAD/E-CAD data during device development. The connectors are made with halogen-free plastics to support environmental sustainability.
The new FH75M Series expands Hirose’s flexible printed circuit (FPC) /flat flexible connector (FFC) connector family to support MIPI D-PHY (1.5 Gb/s) and eDP1.3 (5.4 Gb/s) specifications. With a 0.4 mm pitch and a height of only 2 mm, the FH75M Series delivers high-speed data transmission in a miniature footprint. Offering high contact reliability in severe environments, the FH75M Series utilizes a two-point contact design with two independent springs that provide a wiping action to prevent contact failure from dust, dirt, and other contaminants. With an operating temperature of up to 125 °C, the FH75M Series satisfies extensive heat demands found in automotive applications and meets additional automotive requirements including resistance to shock and vibration, hydrogen and sulfur gases, humidity, and corrosion. The connector utilizes a flip lock with FPC tab and housing side catches that offer a high retention force of 51.4N. The simple flip lock design delivers easy FPC insertion and emits a clear tactile click to confirm complete locking. The FPC connector’s user-friendly design includes wide tapers that provide smooth FPC insertion. FH75M Series is commonly used in car navigation, laser radar, millimeter-wave radar, drive recorder, audio display, and in-vehicle camera systems.
Hirose’s TF70 Series is a two-piece FPC/FFC-to-board connector designed for harsh environment applications including automotive. Featuring a center lock design, the TF70 Series allows for easy, one-handed insertion and removal, ensuring durable performance with a locking strength of more than 40N. A guide key prevents mis-insertion, and a clear tactile click indicates complete and proper mating. Assembly involves inserting the FPF/FFC into the plug housing and securing with the retainer, enhancing efficiency and reducing complexity. This design eliminates traditional terminals, thereby decreasing weight and conserving space by using FPC/FFC instead of discrete wires. The design incorporates safe design features to prevent electric shock, mis-insertion, and incorrect mounting, addressing key safety concerns in automotive electronics. The TF70 Series has a narrow pitch of 0.5 mm and a compact design that significantly reduces the size and weight of end products. It is available in right angle and straight angle connection methods for flexible board design and has an operating temperature of -40 °C to +105 °C.
WAGO’s updated 750-1632 Proportional Valve Module (PVM) is a compact, high-performance solution that offers improved response time, superior precision, and better diagnosis. Features include a large current range, a minimal width of just 12 mm, and the capability to have two single coil valves or one dual-coil valve controlled either unidirectionally or bi-directionally, offering high repeatability. This PVM provides a small footprint, configuration over a network, reduction in system components and engineering, as well as fewer wiring and commissioning hours. With the features of much larger control modules, it significantly simplifies the connection of hydraulic or pneumatic valves to the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM. It also comes with two current-controlled PWM (pulse width modulation) outputs (24 V) with adjustable dithering.
Lumberg expands its portfolio of high-current contacts with the new 4580 01, designed for both SMT (reflow) and THT soldering. This innovative phase contact offers a flexible solution for various assembly requirements. The 4580 01 high-current contact is characterized by its versatility and robust – and at 4.9 x 4.95 mm (W x D) particularly space-saving – design, which really comes into its own in tight installation spaces. It can be plugged in from the top, bottom, and side, and is compatible with many standard blade contacts. The connection is made using flat blade connectors with widths from 2.8 to 6.8 mm and a thickness of 0.8 mm (0.5 mm in preparation), enabling easy integration into various PCB designs. The high-current contact has been tested and meets the requirements of industry standard LV215 for electric vehicle applications and Volkswagen standard VW 80332 for Motor Vehicle High-Voltage Contacts.
