This week’s Product Roundup highlights Mini-MIL circular connectors from leading suppliers.

Mini-Mil-Circular Connectors

ITT Cannon MKJ lineITT Cannon’s innovative MKJ line of miniature circular connectors brings together a unique combination of design, functionality, and flexibility. These reliable and cost-effective interconnect solutions enable critical communication, navigation, and high-speed data transmission at half the size and weight of traditional connectors. Choose from UNC thread, double start, triple start, bayonet, breakaway, and clip-lock latching coupling methods. Features include rear-release crimp, PC tail, or solder cup contacts, and rear accessory threads or integral band platform for direct attachment of cable shield and overmold. Teflon nickel, black zinc nickel, and olive drab cadmium provide reliability for 500 hours of salt spray. RoHS and REACH options are available.

Eaton Micro Military from CDMEaton’s micro-military circular connectors from CDM Electronics incorporate innovative designs that deliver uncompromised performance in harsh environment applications ranging from C4ISR to space flight. These connectors offer significantly smaller sizes, lower weights, and higher contact densities than MIL-DTL-38999 connectors. Their coupling mechanisms stay engaged in high shock and vibration environments and feature redundant insert retention. The comprehensive range of solutions includes dual start: shell sizes 6 – 10 and triple start: shell sizes 8 – 12. Connectors offer mating compatibility with micro-miniature connectors from other manufacturers. They meet MIL-DTL-38999 performance and environmental requirements. Qualification test data is available upon request.

Glenair Mighty Mouser mini-mil circular connectos from PowellPowell supplies Glenair Series 80 Mighty Mouse Connectors for the wide range of power and signal applications that depend on reliable environmental and mechanical performance, as well as electromagnetic compatibility. Glenair developed the Series 80 Mighty Mouse Connector in recognition of a growing need in tactical military, aerospace, and specialty industrial markets for a connector series that mimics the electrical and mechanical performance of popular mil-standard connectors, such as MIL-DTL-38999, but in a smaller and lighter package. Six different coupling styles are offered. Size #23 crimp contacts are standard, set on .076″ centers. At just half the size and weight of D38999, the high-performance Mighty Mouse is now specified on hundreds of mission-critical interconnect applications worldwide and has become the de facto high-performance connector solution for many former users of D38999.

ITT Cannon 38999 Style Series III Mini circular connectorsPEI-Genesis supplies ITT Cannon KJB 38999-Style Series III connectors that offer high density contact arrangements in a lightweight miniature circular connector. These 38999-Style connectors have quick-mating, triple-lead threaded, self-locking coupling for high vibration applications, are environmentally sealed, and operate across a wide temperature range in extreme environments. They feature high density layouts with up to 128 data connections and power contacts rated up to 23 A. The ITT Cannon KJB series, originally designed for military vehicles, are now industry standard aerospace and military connectors. They are intermateable with Souriau connectors and all 38999-style Series III connectors.

Teledyne Reynolds Hi MateThe Teledyne Reynolds Hi/Mate Series multi-pin circular connectors are miniature insertable/removable high-voltage contact assemblies for use in MIL-C-38999 Series I, III, and IV. These off-the-shelf connectors have 12 gauge, rear release, and contact retention cavity.  Hi/Mate contact assemblies expand the capability of MIL-C-38999 connectors by adapting them to carry 13.5 kVDC from sea level to airborne applications up to 70,000 feet altitude over a temperature range of -55° °C to 125 °C.

Amphenol Pcd 38999Amphenol Pcd’s TVµCom 10 Gb+ harsh environment 10 Gb Ethernet Cat6A and Cat7 connectors are based on MIL-DTL-38999 series III – Shell size 11. They feature 10 Gb+ and exceed 10 Gb/s Ethernet following IEEE 802.3an-2006: 10GBase-T. The Cat.6A connector is according to TIA568C.2 and ISO/IEC11801 standard. Aluminum, stainless steel, and marine bronze shells are available. TVµCom 10 Gb+ applications include battlefield communication, grounded vehicles, military avionics, and rail mass transit.

Cinch MD Connector Series AEROCinch Connectivity Solutions’ MD connectors deliver highly reliable performance equal to MIL-DTL-38999. MD801 receptacles with banding platform and square flange are designed to meet military and aerospace application needs.

Bernier CMASDBERNIER offers a line of CMASD connectors (SD for Small Dimension) which feature the same valued characteristics found in CMA connectors, but in a smaller shell (up to 8 contacts). Their construction allows high-speed data communication. CMASD connectors’ ergonomics and small size provide the flexibility to fit customer specifications and meet the connectivity needs required for soldiers’ vests. The locking device options, such as push-pull, add easy handling.
