MIL-Spec-Approved Rectangular Connectors
TE Connectivity’s POLAMCO rectangular backshells, including micro-D backshells, support rugged applications. Originally invented by ITT Cannon in the 1950’s, D-Subminiature connectors, available from PEI Genesis, remain one of the most widely used ultra-reliable I/O interconnect solutions on the market. With high performance power, signal and data transmission, ITT Cannon D-Subminiature connectors provide an ideal interconnect solution for complex military systems, radar/communication devices, industrial equipment, and medical devices. ITT Cannon’s diverse D-Subminiature portfolio provides offers tens of thousands of configurations suitable for all applications. This includes MIL-DTL-24308, standard to high density layouts, space-grade, fiber optic termini, sealed, and Combo-D configurations. Available with up to 104 contacts in crimp, fixed solder cup, PCB, cable to cable, and rear release crimp snap-in terminations.
Amphenol Low Mating Force Rectangular Connector series utilizes the B3 brush contact system known for low mating force, stable electrical performance in high vibration, and extended service life. It has proven performance on the ground, in the air, and at sea. This series features 0.100” center to center, square grid contact spacing; application flexibility (parallel boards, perpendicular boards, wire to board, end to end boards, card extenders); 2, 3, and 4 row contact arrangements with 10 to 100 contacts per row in one contact-per-row increments; and termination versatility including straight and 90° PCB stud, wire wrap, and crimp. Military versions meet MIL-DTL-55302/166 through /172.
Nicomatic’s Micro-D Mix DMM connectors are compliant with MIL-DTL-83513G performance, and allow more standard configurations compared to micro-D or D-subs. They save space and are an excellent response to EMI-RFI and mechanical protection issues. Mono or bi-component covers can provide 360° shielding and additional protection to a wired solution. DMM with bezel ensures continuity of shielding on the panel, and the version without bezel optimizes size. These connectors offer great modularity: signal contacts (LF), coax (HF), and power (HP), over 10M configurations; I/O connector for board-to-board, board-to-wire, and wire-to-wire, and front or rear panel mounting (1 to 4 rows of contacts); miniaturization with 2 mm pitch, low profile. The 6061 aluminum alloy provides robustness and removable crimp contacts allow for easy maintenance.
Smiths Interconnect filtered rack and panel connectors include ARINC 404, ARINC 600, and MIL-DTL-83527 shell styles. Filtered rack and panel connectors are designed to meet or exceed all applicable requirements of each series and are intermateable and interchangeable with standard non-filter connectors. They meet or exceed all applicable requirements of military specifications. Amphenol Communications Solutions TW Hybrid D-Subminiature connectors offer a wide range of termination options for board and cable ends, including straight and right angle for board side, and solder cup and crimping (for power pin only) for cable side. Each termination variant has both socket and plug connectors. Three kinds of footprint layout styles, European, military, and mixed, are available for right-angle PCB terminations. The mating interface is according to MIL-C-24308. The mating area contact finish is always gold with choice of three basic thicknesses: gold flash, 15µ”, and 30µ”, according to the number of mating cycles desired. The soldering area contact finish is gold for signal pins and tin for power pins. Contacts are offered as precision-machined versions with current ratings up to 7.5A for high reliability applications. High temperature nylon inserts are available for customers using a through hole with reflow soldering process. The standard line is available in five basic shell sizes from E, A, B, C, to D, and Amphenol’s hybrid connectors have up to 18 contact arrangements in signal, power, and coax.
The XMRE and XMRA Series connectors from CDM Electronics are designed to provide a sturdy, space-saving, lightweight electrical connection. Inserts are housed in protective shells with screw-lock coupling plus wall and cable mounting accessories are available. XMRE and XMRA meet the high potential performance requirements of MIL-C-28748. Military versions are QPL’d to M28748/1 and M28748/2 (XMRA) and to M28748/5 and M28748/6 (XMRE)

D*MM/MIL-DTL-24308 Class G D-Sub connectors offer a standard density solution with fixed contacts in straight, solder cup, and 90° PC contact terminations. They are available with a wide range of accessories and are ideal for harsh environment applications like commercial aircraft, aerospace launch vehicles, and military aviation. Cannon MIL-DTL-83513 series micro-D connectors and cable assemblies are ideally suited for applications requiring extremely small, lightweight, and ruggedized solutions with higher density contact configurations. These M83513 micro-D connectors are available in eight shell sizes that accommodate from 9 to 100 contacts. Designed to be both robust and space-saving, these interconnects meet industry demand for environmental, high-performance, and moisture-sealed micros that perform reliably in the harshest environments. They are ideally suited for missiles and ordnance, aerospace launch vehicles, oil and gas exploration, and industrial automation applications.
Avnet supplies Amphenol Sine Systems AT Series Connectors. The AT Series is MIL-Spec-approved and designed as an IP68/69K rated (mated), high-performance, cost-effective, thermoplastic solution with superior environmental seals, and seal retention capabilities. They are designed for use with 14-22 AWG with size 16 contacts handling up to 13A. Applications include marine, heavy equipment, agricultural, automotive, alternative energy, as well as other demanding interconnect applications.
Pre-wired Nano-D / Bi-Lobe Single Row MIL-DTL-32139 from Omnetics can be ordered with full QPL approval. These assemblies are crimped using proprietary automated crimping systems in Omnetics’ MIL-STD-790-approved manufacturing facility. Pre-crimped wires and contacts are potted in place further protecting the integrity of the crimp joint. Building these as full QPL parts adds a level of confidence to critical applications. Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) non-QPL versions are also available with 18″ of color-coded 30 AWG Teflon for quick turnaround. These connectors are available in standard sizes ranging from 5 through 51 positions.

The micro-D connector system is designed to meet all the requirements of robustness, durability, low contact resistance, high current, dielectric strength, and shock and vibration. With 1.27 mm (.050” contact spacing), micro-D connectors — half the size of D-sub connectors — represent an excellent solution for saving both space and weight.
