Meet the Connector: UMP Connectors
UMP (Ultra Miniature Push-Pull) connectors are compact, high-performance connectors designed for applications where space is limited and reliability is crucial.
These connectors feature a push-pull mechanism, which allows for easy insertion and removal while ensuring a secure connection. UMP connectors are often used in medical devices, industrial equipment, military applications, and other industries that require miniaturized, durable, and high-density interconnections.
Ultra Miniature Push-Pull (UMP) connectors have origins in the push-pull connector type pioneered by LEMO Connectors and Fischer Connectors. They have been developed and refined over time by several manufacturers in response to the demand for smaller, more reliable, and durable connectors in high-reliability industries such as medical devices, aerospace, and industrial automation.
Design Notes
Standardization: UMP connectors may adhere to industry standards for performance and safety, use in medical devices, or waterproof ratings, but they are not standardized; suppliers offer proprietary versions of this interface. Manufacturers often use unique locking mechanisms, pin arrangements, and material compositions to differentiate their products, making cross-compatibility difficult.
UMP connectors are often used in specialized applications that have unique requirements, such as medical devices, military equipment, and aerospace systems. These industries may have stringent demands for reliability, sterilization, or resistance to environmental factors that are not covered by universal standards.
Customization: Many UMP connectors are customizable to meet the specific needs of an application. Manufacturers may work closely with clients to develop tailored solutions.
