This week’s Product Roundup highlights high-speed cable solutions from leading connector manufacturers and suppliers.

High-Speed Cable Solutions

3M Twin Axial PCIe Extender Assemblies for PCIe 4.0 applications, available from Avnet3M Twin Axial PCIe Extender Assemblies for PCIe 4.0 applications, available from Avnet, is a family of cable assemblies including X8 and X16 connectors utilizing 3M Low Loss Twin Axial Cable 85 ohm, 31 AWG. These assemblies are ideal for PCIe applications. With their extremely tight bend radius and thin ribbon construction, these innovative cable products allow for easy routing in even the densest server or rack configurations. They are designed for scalability and tight bends without compromising signal integrity performance.

Amphenol’s PCIe DirectAttached cable riser solutionAmphenol’s PCIe DirectAttached cable riser solution supports up to PCIe 5.0 data rate of 32 Gb/s. Directly replacing high-speed PCIe trace on a multi-layer mother board with high-speed cable can reduce signal loss. A PCIe DirectAttached CEM connector on one end of the cable allows the flexibility of a different connection on the other end of the cable, accommodating different PCB form factors such as MCIO, Multi-trak, SlimSAS, EDSFF, OCP NIC 3.0, Gen Z, or backplane connectors. Ideal for use in high-speed computing data center server systems, GPU cards, riser cards, and accelerator cards, using cable to replace legacy PCIe riser cards provides cost-savings and space-savings by eliminating the need for the motherboard PCB and riser card PCBs. It also provides shorter manufacturing production lead times, as riser card PCBA can be done in parallel with the cable soldering process.

Nicomatic offers a custom solutionNicomatic offers a custom solution for radar and communication systems. This harness offers compatibility with many cables and PCBs. It is composed of a Nicomatic connector solution and coax cables because of their HF performances and adaptability. This solution makes it possible to connect with RF connectors such as SMA, MMCX, and MCX using different types of cabling including RG 178, RG 316, RG 179, and RG 174 LMR, up to a 6 GHz frequency.

Amphenol LTW’s M12 X-Code connectors and cable assembliesAmphenol LTW’s M12 X-Code connectors and cable assemblies meet Cat6A standards and comply with IEC 61076-2-109. They are designed to enhance data transmission rate up to 10 Gb/s. The compact design is composed of four shielded pairs covered by braid shielding. Providing push-pull and screw thread mating options, they are ideal for preventing interference and ensuring reliability in high-speed data transmission.

Samtec’s AcceleRate® HP cable systemSamtec’s AcceleRate® HP cable system provides an excellent mix of density and performance. The 0.635 mm pitch board connector (APF6) uses Samtec’s popular AcceleRate contacts with a staggered row-to-row spacing of 2.2 mm x 2.4 mm, allowing adequate routing lanes for optimized differential pair traces. It is the industry’s highest density 112 Gb/s PAM4 cable-to-board system, with 32 to 72 differential pairs, and available in four or six row designs. The cable assembly (ARP6) features Samtec’s optimized direct attach technology for impedance control and lower losses through Eye Speed® ultra-low skew twinax cable.  It is data rate compatible with PCIe 6.0/CXL 3.1 and 100 GbE. The cable solution is available with either rugged squeeze latch, which enables quick disconnect, or locking tabs for maximum density systems (a removal tool is required for this option).

Amphenol SV Microwave offers a complete line of fixed length, high frequency cable assembliesAmphenol SV Microwave offers a complete line of fixed length, high frequency cable assemblies utilizing SMA, 2.92mm, 2.4mm, 1.85mm, SMP, and SMPM connectors on flexible Ø.047 and Ø.085 cable types. These high-speed RF cable assemblies feature low solder wicking, and the high flexibility allows for tight bends behind the cable ferrule.

TYU’s new high-speed cable connector solutionTYU’s new high-speed cable connector solution follows PCIe 5.0 and future PCIe 6.0 spec requirements in data centers, servers, and storage units. In this design, the wires are directly soldered to the signal contact and eliminates the use of a paddle card in the cable connector. The paddle card is costly and often difficult to assemble in the manufacturing process. The direct wire-to-contact soldering method improves manufacturing efficiency and stability. This new process also allows for a more consistent signal integrity result for every cable connector produced. The solution is compatible to OCP standard SFF-TA-1016, enabling users flexibility in board connector options.

Uses include cameras for drones or orthopedic surgery and endoscopy devices, assembly lines, and outdoor inspection systems in radioactive contaminated areas. The new high-speed connector and cable solutions allow for 10 Gb/s data transfer with outstanding signal integrity. Released in 2023, the high-density, IP68-sealed Fischer MiniMax solutions are ideally suited for applications where SWaP (size, weight, and power) is critical. They come with 9 pins in Ø 12.9 mm (plug diameter), offer additional power contacts up to 8 A, and are half the size of some competitor connectors with similar speed but no power. In 2024, design engineers will have more choices thanks to new ultra-fast solutions developed in the versatile Fischer Core Series (9 pins, Ø 13 mm) and the ultra-rugged Fischer UltiMate Series (9 pins, Ø 18.5 mm), both with IP68/IP69 sealing (hermetic for UltiMate) and 10,000 mating cycles (vs. 5,000 for MiniMax). Options of overmolded cable assemblies are offered for increased durability and strength, improved reliability, and simplified installation.
