HARTING-supported Volkswagen ID.The HARTING-supported Volkswagen ID.4 will be part of the “Driving Toward Tomorrow” multimedia exhibition series at the Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles until the end of the year. In 2021, the ID.4 completed its 57,000-kilometer e-mobility road trip. Professional driver Rainer Zietlow travelled across the U.S. in the ID.4 in just under 100 days to prove that electric vehicles are viable for long distances. “Driving Toward Tomorrow” opened in November 2019 and presents current automotive industry projects that represent the future of transport design. Concept vehicles developed by selected car manufacturers worldwide are on display, with a special focus on the development of Volkswagen’s modular electric drive. The all-electric ID.4 EV is now in the spotlight under the title, “Building an Electric Future.”

Three Phoenix Contact products won Control Engineering Engineers’ Choice AwardsThree Phoenix Contact products won Control Engineering Engineers’ Choice Awards. Axioline Smart Elements won the I/O & Networking: I/O Modules category; FL mGuard 1100 won the I/O & Networking: Cybersecurity category; and QUINT POWER 600VA DC to AC Inverter won the Power category. Control Engineering, part of CFE Media and Technology, awarded products in 19 categories of control, instrumentation, and automation products introduced in 2021, as chosen by print and online subscribers. This is the 35th year of product recognition for the publication, highlighted in the February 2022 monthly edition, in several newsletters, and online.

Smiths Interconnect was awarded a manufacturing contract from Lockheed MartinSmiths Interconnect was awarded a manufacturing contract from Lockheed Martin to manufacture High Gain High Sensitivity (HGHS) Antenna systems to protect U.S. Navy ships from threats during mission critical operations. The HGHS Antenna is enabled by Smiths Interconnect’s 30-year heritage of antenna and software capabilities to provide enhanced frontline situational awareness and ship protection from inbound threats. The five-year contract will deliver up to 74 antenna subsystems and includes manufacture and test of the high gain high sensitivity antenna systems along with embedded control and interface software. Smiths Interconnect HGHS antennas integrated into Lockheed Martin’s SEWIP system will provide anti-ship missile defense, counter-targeting, and counter-surveillance capabilities. The SEWIP program was established in 2002 to provide enhanced electronic warfare capabilities and services to the Unites States Navy and global alliances.

Xavier Fustagueras has been appointed General Manager of Fischer Connectors Inc.The Fischer Connectors Group is pleased to announce that Xavier Fustagueras has been appointed General Manager of Fischer Connectors Inc. based in Atlanta, to pursue the group’s growth in North and South Americas. The technology group provides high-performance connectivity solutions that manage power and data flows across sensors, devices, and the cloud – from end-to-end electrical and optical interconnectivity for devices, to IoT solutions for connected workers – in various markets such as defense and security, medical, industrial, instrumentation, audio visual, transportation, and energy. Fustagueras holds a master’s degree in telecommunications engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain. He started his career in the broadcast industry and worked for more than 15 years in the media and entertainment industry in PayTV at NAGRA (Kudelski Group), where he managed business development for Spain and Portugal, then held different positions in key accounts, and pre-sales and sales enablement in the Kudelski Group’s headquarters in Switzerland, until 2017, when he moved to Phoenix, for the position of SVP General Manager Americas.

HEICO acquires Pioneer IndustriesHEICO Corporation’s Flight Support Group acquired Farmingdale, New York-based Pioneer Industries, LLC., a leading specialty distributor of spares for military aviation, marine, and ground platforms. Its customers include the U.S. Department of Defense and companies that support the defense sector. Pioneer adds new products and capabilities to HEICO’s rapidly-growing and highly successful Defense Sustainment and Distribution operations which are dedicated to supporting the defense aftermarket’s specialized and niche needs, along with sales to new defense equipment production. Pioneer’s owners and leaders, Robert and David Yormack, brothers whose family founded Pioneer in 1945, will retain 26% of Pioneer’s equity and continue in their current roles with the company. HEICO stated that it does not expect any staff turnover to result from the acquisition. Additionally, HEICO’s Lucix subsidiary acquired 100% of the stock of Flight Microwave Corporation. Founded in 2004, Flight Microwave is a leading designer and manufacturer of world class custom high power filters and filter assemblies used in space and defense applications.

EICA WorkshopsECIA will present a series of in-person workshops April 22-28, 2022, “Cyber Data Breaches: How to manage them and mitigate risk.” TrustBridge, a renowned Cyber and Data privacy company, has teamed up with Womble Bond Dickinson to offer practical workshops that allow senior managers to evaluate their cyber risk and approach. These workshops provide practical steps toward data protection and regulation alignment at a time when various U.S. states are introducing new data protection and privacy regulations. The workshops will take place on site at Flip Electronics’ offices in Alpharetta, Georgia, on April 22, and at ECIA offices in Fairfax, Virginia, on April 28. PEI Genesis plant ZhuhaiPEI-Genesis launched Amphenol 62GB value-add in the PEI Zhuhai plant. Recently, PEI APAC received the official certification from Amphenol UK, which authorizes the Zhuhai manufacturing facility to assemble Amphenol 62GB connectors. Amphenol UK designed the Amphenol 62GB connector series based on the MIL-DTL-26482 specifications, intended for harsh environments and heavy-duty industrial applications with high voltage and high-power rating in ruggedized brass and or stainless-steel shell options. Amphenol 62GB is the eighth Amphenol value-add connector product series in Zhuhai after PT, E&R 5015, Amphe-Lite, A&B 97 series, Reverse Bayonet, SurLok cable assembly, and ACAB Bayonet. PEI Zhuhai now has 14 value-add series from three brands, Amphenol, ITT Cannon, and Souriau, to support 48 hours of built-to-order service to China and APAC customers. The product series also offers both alternate keying and insert rotation options to reduce the risk of improper mating in applications. In August 2021, the Amphenol 62GB implementation project was dispatched and has continued its success today.

Waytek now APP distributorWaytek has entered an agreement with Anderson Power Products (APP) to become an authorized global distributor of APP’s full selection of electrical connectors. APP has been designing and manufacturing electrical power products for over 100 years. The distribution agreement will continue to allow Waytek to support legacy APP products including Powerpole and SB Series interconnect systems while enabling Waytek to further expand its offering of APP-branded products in the future.

Newark signs agreement with Jabil Cutting ToolsNewark signed a worldwide distribution agreement with Jabil Cutting Tools. Jabil is recognized as a powerhouse in electronics manufacturing, and this is the first time the company has offered products through high service distribution. Newark now stocks a range of products available for fast delivery from Jabil, such as the long-lasting, high-precision DK20004JS End Mill for mold steel. The DK20004JS is an ideal cutting solution for finishing and fine machining mold steel HRC 50±2 material used in industrial manufacturing operations. Jabil in-house coating capability extends the cutter’s lifespan and performance. DK01001ZO CBN ball endmill is another solution for high quality surface machining and high precision for mold steel HRC 50-68. GCT and Sager sign agreementGlobal Connector Technology (GCT) announced a regional distribution agreement with Sager Electronics. The agreement provides for regional coverage across North America with Sager offering a wide range of GCT products, including the latest USB, SIM, memory, and board-to-board connectors.

Nicomatic has achieved AS9100:2016 certification, an internationally recognized standard for organizations that provide defense, space, and aviation products and services. The AS9100 certification ensures providers have adequate quality management systems in place, and many aerospace manufacturers and suppliers will work only with certified partners. Nicomatic’s implementation of its AS9100 quality management system reflects its commitment to the quality and continuous improvement expectations of its customers. The AS9100 standard was prepared by the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG). Nicomatic is AS9100:2016 registered by SRI Quality System Register in Seven Springs, Pennsylvania. Additionally, Nicomatic USA has implemented a strategic plan to achieve double-digit growth in revenue, job creation, and community contribution at its Horsham, Pennsylvania, facility and plans to add approximately 20 jobs to its Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

Sager Electronics announced its Custom Solutions Centers in Carrollton, Texas, and Lisle, Illinois, have received ISO 13485:2016 certification. Medical device manufacturers highly value the ISO 13485 standard that certifies an organization’s ability to provide products that consistently meet customer and applicable regulatory requirements. The ISO 13485:2016 certification opens an exciting new growth path, enabling Sager to reach leading customers in the rapidly evolving medical sector where safety is paramount.

CDM NadcapCDM Electronics’ Turnersville, New Jersey, headquarters has again received Nadcap  (National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program) accreditation for Electronics Cable and Harness Assemblies (AC7121) from the Performance Review Institute (PRI). The recertification verifies the CDM location’s qualifications to provide the aerospace and defense market with interconnects in accordance with the Class 3 requirements of IPC/WHMA-A-620. The facility has maintained Nadcap accreditation since 2016. CDM’s interconnects and engineered cable assemblies are widely employed by the world’s leading aerospace and defense companies. They are commonly specified in tactical communications systems, commercial and private aircraft avionic systems, commercial aircraft onboard entertainment systems, rotary wing aircraft avionics and onboard electronics, military aircraft avionics and fire control, as well as space flight applications. Along with the Class 3 requirements of IPC/WHMA-A-620, the ISO-certified headquarters maintains numerous additional aerospace, military, and commercial test quality certifications, including AS9100:15, AS9100D, RoHS, MIL-STD, IEC, JEDC, ITAR, and UL.
