Phoenix Contact’s Mini Plug Connectors Reduce Connection Time
September 2012
Phoenix Contact’s latest mini plug connectors reduce connection time and allow for true surface-mount processing. The PTPM and PTSM, designed for use in LED connections, measure just 5mm high and are rated up to 5A.
The new PTPM uses insulation-piercing connection (IPC) technology, eliminating wire preparation. This allows on-site connection, without tools, for both signal and data on a 2.5 mm centerline. To connect, the user simply inserts the conductor into the housing and presses the housing down with the thumb. There is no need to strip conductors.
The PTSM is now available in a pluggable version that uses push-in spring technology. This allows quick connection of both rigid and flexible conductors up to 20 AWG. Rigid conductors are just stripped and inserted directly into the plug connector. To release the connection or insert stranded wire, use a screwdriver.
Due to their small design, the PTSM and PTPM are ideal for use on flat modules and boards. The base housings require minimal PCB space and are shipped in tape feeder packs.
