Radiation-resistant interconnects
This week’s Product Roundup highlights radiation-resistant interconnects from leading connector manufacturers and suppliers.
Radiation-resistant interconnects
SpaceNXT QT Series from Smiths Interconnect offers improved phase stability over a wide range of temperatures found in space environments while meeting all NASA/ESA outgassing specifications. It is equipped with ETFE radiation resistant jacket materials. This combination enables customers to access a lower cost of ownership while improving system performance. SpaceNXT QT series products have passed design verification and are rigorously tested per customer and industry application requirements. SpaceNXT QT series assemblies are manufactured with low loss fluoropolymer dielectrics and constructed with materials which meet the outgassing requirements of NASA/ESA when tested per ASTM E595. The outer jackets use ETFE material for increased radiation resistance. SpaceNXT 065QT, 100QT, and 160QT cables are specifically designed for spaceflight applications on LEO, MEO, and GEO satellite platforms and offered with standardized testing sequences, reducing delivery times and overall cost of ownership.
Axorad cables from Axon’ Cable combine radiation resistance with high or low temperatures, extreme mechanical stress, and miniaturization, in standard or inert atmosphere. Axorad radiation-resistant cables can be used as power cables, instrumentation cables, control cables, and sensor cables in nuclear plants, particle detectors, accelerators, or scientific devices. They are also used in satellites and defense systems, including submarines.
JAE FO-BD7 Series is an environmentally resistant optical module incorporated plug connector for outdoor use. The FO-BD7 series is an active optical cable. The optical cable is inherently radiation-resistant, and the electrical connection area is fully shielded. Features include an optical module installed within the plug connector for thermal countermeasure, a seamless optical module replacement process, IP67 rated water/dust ingress protection, and environmental resistance that makes it ideal for outdoor applications.
Eaton’s UTO Series available from PEI-Genesis is a robust metal and EMI/RFI shielded connector for intensive use. Built using zinc and aluminum alloy, stainless steel, and brass, the Souriau UTO TRIM TRIO series attains an IP68/69K rating for fluid resistance when mated. These durable Souriau UTO connectors will maintain a reliable signal even in electromagnetic radiation areas.
Glenair’s Series 806 connectors available from Powell Electronics are designed to be radiation-resistant through several key features. They utilize advanced materials and construction techniques that enhance their durability and performance in high-radiation environments. Additionally, the connectors’ hermetic sealing options and robust shielding help mitigate the effects of radiation exposure, ensuring reliable performance in critical applications such as aerospace and military systems. This combination of design innovation and material selection contributes to their resistance to radiation-induced degradation.
