O Canada! Connector Suppliers Expand in the Land of the Maple Leaf

By AJ Born | February 17, 2026

Advancements in data centers, telecommunications, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and automotive applications are driving suppliers to locate close to this growing customer base.

Technology is booming everywhere, but multiple interconnect companies have specifically targeted Canada for expansion in the past year. This is in line with the strong growth forecasted for Canada’s high-speed interconnect market in the next five years due to increasing demand for rapid data transmission and the trends driving it such as the adoption of optical interconnects, the integration of edge-computing environments, and the growth in data-intensive applications.

Weidmüller Canada

For more than 50 years, Weidmüller has served the Canadian market from its headquarters in Markham, Ontario. “As our customers’ needs evolve, so does our responsibility to remain present, accessible, and deeply connected across the entire country,” said Gary Martins, managing director of Weidmüller Ltd. in Canada. With that in mind, the company has expanded westward with the opening of a location in Calgary, Alberta. This is in addition to Weidmüller’s regional office in Quebec.

The new Calgary facility serves not only as a home for Weidmüller’s local sales team but also as a true innovation hub, providing hands‑on resources and technical expertise. “Our Learning Centre offers in‑person product training providing customers real‑time access to our technologies,” said Martins. “Additionally, the Automation Lab provides a collaborative environment equipped with simulation tools and operational hardware allowing us to design, test, and refine automation solutions directly with our customers.”

A growing priority within the Calgary facility is smart cabinet building. The company plans to expand the Automation Lab and showcase its full suite of cabinet‑building technologies, including advanced printing and marking systems, automated cable‑handling equipment for cutting, stripping, and crimping, and its semi‑automated Wire Processing Centre. “Customers will experience the complete digital workflow, from CAD data integration to optimized wire processing using the same tools driving Weidmüller innovation globally,” Martins said.

To further enhance its regional responsiveness, Weidmüller has localized customer support, product support, and product management across its Western and Eastern offices. “Operating directly within the Western time zone allows us to better serve customers in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut,” Martins said. “Our goal is clear: to be closer to our customers, strengthen collaboration, and deliver faster, localized support. Today, our core focus is Connecting2morrow, a strategy designed to help our customers strengthen their competitive edge and compete globally. Whether we are supporting OT/IT convergence through our open, flexible, and scalable u-OS real‑time operating system, advancing cybersecurity, delivering innovative power solutions, or enabling smart cabinet building, Weidmüller remains a trusted automation partner.”

binder

binder’s expansion into Canada is the logical and strategic progression of the company’s North American growth strategy. “Canada shares strong alignment with binder’s core U.S. industries, including OEM system integrators, transportation, and machine building, with major industrial hubs concentrated in Ontario and Quebec,” said Paul Pulkowski, marketing manager. “As Canadian manufacturers continue to increase automation to maintain global competitiveness, the demand for reliable, high performance connectivity solutions is steadily growing.”

Pulkowski explained that, compared to the U.S., Canada offers a less saturated supplier landscape that creates attractive opportunities for technology providers. Connectivity standards and certification requirements that are highly aligned between the two countries lower barriers to entry in the market and accelerates customer adoption.

“Canada is more than a neighboring market, it is a trusted long-term partner and a key driver of our North American growth, with accelerating investment in automation creating new opportunities across the manufacturing ecosystem,” said CEO Maciek Czerwinski. Establishing a stronger local presence in Canada allows binder to support customers more closely, respond faster to application needs, and build durable partnerships with manufacturers and integrators.

Neutrik

Neutrik Group Americas, a subsidiary of Neutrik AG, is growing its presence in Canada with the appointment of Sigma Component Design as its new independent manufacturer’s rep for the region. Sigma will represent the complete product portfolio of Neutrik Group brands — Neutrik, REAN, and Contrik — and will provide sales support and customer service throughout the region.

“Sigma already has existing relationships with our distributor and reseller partners in Canada, making them a natural partner for us,” said Tom Chudyk, sales director, Neutrik Group Americas. “This regional foothold, along with Sigma’s technical expertise in infrastructure and varying components, will further strengthen our presence.”

Founded in 2002, Sigma has completed thousands of application designs and has a team of technical sales reps dedicated to serving the needs of the Canadian market. Sigma Component Design is an industry leader for power, thermal, passive, and electromechanical components. Sigma works with customers to provide complete support from design to fulfillment.
