New Market Research Report Explores the World Automotive Connector Market
The automotive industry is the second-largest market for connectors, with increasing production of both conventional and electric vehicles. Bishop & Associates’ new research report explores the products, technologies, supply chain challenges, and other factors impacting the automotive market.
The World Automotive Connector Market
The automotive market is the center of intense innovation as safety, efficiency, new technologies, infrastructure, regulations, and style come together in one major product category that also integrates electronic systems from other areas, including lighting, screen technologies, entertainment, battery management systems, navigation, autonomy, and communications. These innovations have led to the automotive market becoming the second-largest consumer of connectors. A new 200-page market research report by Bishop & Associates explores the worldwide market for connectors used in automotive (light vehicle) production from 2020 through 2026.
Bishop & Associates has done extensive research into the use of connectors in this market and has developed an extensive database of connector usage by connector type, vehicle type, and electrical system. Market size estimates and forecasts are based on a combination of this research and research by industry experts in the fields of automotive electronics, light vehicle production, and electronic connector manufacturing. Worldwide vehicle production and vehicle electrical system characteristics are highly dependent on factors such as GDP growth, per capita income, government regulations, etc. Forecasts in this report utilize the previously referred to industry expert forecasts, which are clearly identified in the report. Detailed discussion of economic trends and government regulations are beyond the scope of this report.
The World Automotive Connector Market report examines the major technologies in automobiles in five concentrated areas: Powertrain, Comfort, Convenience, & Entertainment, Safety & Security, Navigation and Instrumentation, and Body Wiring & Power Distribution. Within these categories, the report details seven connector product types: harness connectors – cable termination, harness connectors – in-line, printed circuit board (PCB) connectors, RF connectors, high voltage connectors, fiber optic connectors, and lugs and terminals. Together, these categories indicate the increasing impact of connected vehicle technologies on modern vehicle design.
The report also details the past performance of the market by product and regions and forecasts its future development. The worldwide market for automotive connectors will grow at a rate of 5.8% per year through 2026. Bishop valued the worldwide automotive connector market at $17.047 billion in 2021, or 21.9% of the total markets tracked by Bishop & Associates. This study forecasts automotive connector demand through 2026.
Electric, and hybrid electric, powertrains have evolved into a viable alternative to internal combustion engines (ICE). In 2021 15.7% of worldwide production is estimated to use electric and hybrid electric powertrains. By 2026 the share is forecast to reach 32.6% of total production.
The worldwide market for high voltage connectors will grow from 9.5% of the total automotive connector market in 2021 to 14.4% in 2026. Electronic systems growth is shifting to accident prevention, or advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The market for ADAS system components is forecast to grow at a rate 9.8% per year through 2026 versus 7.0% for total automotive electronic components. Additionally, the CAN bus is representative of a typical vehicle data highway today. Data rates are typically less than 1 Mbit per second and can be easily accommodated by non-shielded twisted pairs within the wiring harness. As ADAS components gain broader use, shielded twisted pairs are required to accommodate higher data rates. Automotive Ethernet wiring structures will displace current data wiring.
