This week’s Product Roundup highlights medical connectors from leading suppliers.
Medical connectors
Avnet supplies the full range of Molex fiber optic connectors and adapters that provide customers with a wide range of design, manufacturing, and value-added service for the medical market. From small form factor and industrial versions to outdoor, ultra-bend, and MTP/MPO data center solutions, Molex has the fiber optic products for your applications.
The CMM from Nicomatic is the most modular rectangular connector system with a 2 mm pitch in the world today, allowing the creation of more than 20 million standard configurations. CMM’s small size yet high reliability make it a preferred choice for multiple medical devices. In miniaturized medical systems, CMM connectors enable the integration of advanced technologies into extremely compact devices, ultra-light mobile equipment, and handheld devices that facilitate continuous health monitoring. In hospital environments, CMM connectors enhance the adaptability and safety of electric surgical tables, and its precision is vital for diagnostic equipment, such as MRI machines, endoscopy systems, and electrocardiographs. CMM connectors have a crucial role in medical robotics, particularly in the development and functionality of exoskeletons that support and enhance the physical capabilities of patients, allowing for faster and more effective rehabilitation. CMM’s main features include extreme modularity (HF, HP, LF contacts, from 1 to 3 rows and up to 120 contacts); flexible architecture for board-to-board, board-to-wire, and wire-to-wire; significant space saving (up to -40% in surface area and -60% in volume) compared to other rectangular connectors; weight reduction of 20% to 50% compared to solutions with the same functionalities; PPS robustness: no moisture absorption, low outgassing rate, and resistance to radiation, solvents. CMM withstands temperatures from -60 °C to + 260 °C. Its high-performance mechanical fixing system (numerous fixings available) makes it ideal for applications with vibrations and shocks.
The D Series from Smiths Interconnect provides medical equipment designers with reliable connections for applications as diverse as electro-physiology catheters, patient monitors, MRIs, intravascular ultrasounds, defibrillators, infusion pumps, and laboratory equipment. The D01 is available with up to nine Hypertac hyperboloid contacts in less than 0.5” diameter, while the slightly larger D02 offers more extensive options, from three power to 25 signal contacts, or a mixture of power or coax and signal contacts. In addition, the mini D00 connector includes five signal contacts in a format nearly 30% smaller than the D01. Options for the D Series include high temperature versions molded in Ultem (polyetherimide) plastic, which have been shown to withstand 20 autoclave cycles while maintaining the high reliability needed for critical medical applications requiring sterilization.
Binder 720 Series miniature circular medical-specific connectors from CDM Electronics feature snap-in mating that provides IP67 waterproof performance. Available 60V-250V ratings and 2.0A-7.0A current capacity, along with an impulse rating of up to 2500V, allows these connectors to be used in a variety of patient treatment and monitoring equipment. Medical-grade PA (nylon) sure-grip bodies and gold-over-bronze contacts withstand the harshest clinical conditions and provide for a rating of >500 mating cycles. The 720 series is available with 5-12 contact arrangements with both cable and panel mount options.
JAE’s D-Sub ME Series for Class I and II medical devices, electrocardiography, and ultrasonic diagnostic equipment features an anti-shock function with a resin insulated pin contact. This product is compatible with IEC-60601-1 3rd Edition clause 8.5.2.3, specific to medical devices.
In addition to being compatible with JAE’s existing socket contact type D-Sub connectors, this product was designed with a unique structure originated by JAE (Pat. Pend.). Regarding the electrical performance of this product, it can be used safely, the same as JAE’s existing D-sub series with proven results.
EDAC Card Edge connectors provide reliable and high-density connections essential for medical applications, ensuring precision and stability in critical devices. Designed for robust performance, these connectors support advanced medical equipment, enhancing functionality.
Phoenix Contact’s FINEPITCH product range provides the lightweight, durable, and high quality required for portable medical equipment. The board-to-board connectors in the FINEPITCH product range provide shielded and unshielded solutions for signal and data transmission. This allows for the implementation of individual PCB orientations in all dimensions with different designs, stack heights, and a number of positions in different pitches from 0.635 mm to 2.54 mm. Mezzanine, coplanar connections, and mother-daughter cards are also possible.
FLOS & FLOS+ Series from Amphenol LTW provides a full-metal push-pull and break-away solution for data, signal, and power transmissions in indoor and outdoor environments. FLOS & FLOS+ Series offers high performance of interconnection with its push-pull coupling mechanism, corrosion-resistant coating, 360° EMI shielding, as well as cost-effective pricing. These push-pull connectors meet IP50/IP68 waterproof protection, and UL94V-0 flammability rating. They are available in 1.5A to 35A current rating, 600V to 2400V working voltage, and -40 °C to 125 °C temperature range. Typical applications include non-invasive medical electronic equipment, military, testing, and measurement equipment.
