Hermetically Sealed Connector Products
This week’s product roundup highlights hermetically sealed connector solutions from leading suppliers.
Newark element14 stocks MIL-DTL-38999 Series III Hermetic Connectors from SOURIAU. These stainless steel, high-density connectors have a compact footprint with a low profile that delivers up to 30% space savings, threaded couplings for quick, reliable mating, a robust glass-to-metal hermetic seal, and 45 different layouts for broad suitability in sensors, actuators, valves, and other high-temperature, -vibration, and -pressure applications. The series offers solder flange, square flange, and jam nut receptacles with passivated stainless steel or nickel plating and solder cup, PC tail, and eyelet contacts. They are qualified to MIL-DTL-38999 and compliant with EN3645, are rated for 3–60A, operating temperatures extending from -65°C to 200°C, and 500 mating cycles, and are also available in special fuel tank versions for long-term fuel immersion and versions qualified to 230V for higher-voltage applications that require reduced cable weight.
TE Connectivity’s DEUTSCH AS Aluminum Hermetic Fuel Tank Series connectors are made with lightweight, high-performance materials designed to withstand high temperatures and high vibration, contribute to overall weight reductions, and deliver high-reliability sealing integrity in autosport fuel tank applications. The series features an aluminum shell and nut that weigh 60% less than standard, stainless steel DEUTSCH connectors, a robust glass-to-metal seal that can withstand pressure differentials of 1,000psi without loss of electrical performance or fluid leakage, a fuel-immersible O-ring that provides a robust seal between the connector and bulkhead, an integral potting cup, rear accessory thread, and external boot termination feature, and beryllium copper contacts in a selection of contact arrangements to accommodate pumps and sensors. It is rated for operating temperatures extending from -55°C to +175°C, 1,500V dielectric withstanding voltage, a maximum of 13A, and 500 mating cycles.
Fischer Core Series Brass high-performance push-pull connectors and cable assemblies are compact, rugged, reliable, and versatile, and are well suited for use in a wide range of medical, military, automotive, marine, and instrumentation applications. The series exhibits high temperature and chemical resistance, is compatible with most sterilization processes, features mechanical keying, color-coding, and a patented push-pull locking mechanism for quick and easy operation, and is fully configurable to customers’ needs. Solutions are available in any size or configuration, including multi-polar, power, coax, fluid, and hybrid, and with robust IP68/69 and hermetic sealing for vacuum and underwater applications.
ODU AMC® High-Density connectors deliver high-performance, high-reliability power, signal, and data transmission, weight and space reductions, and easy handling in next-generation military applications, including helmet-mounted cameras, group voice and data radios, headsets, GPS antennas and navigation modules, battery packs, computers and personal area networks, wrist-worn displays, rifle mounted systems, and unmanned vehicles. They have a rugged, miniature form factor that weighs up to 70% less than competing solutions, and are available in four shell sizes with diameters spanning 10–18.5mm and with 2–40 contacts in numerous high-density configurations capable of delivering up to 15A of power, signal, and USB 3.1 Gen 1, USB 2.0, Ethernet, and HDMI data in a single connector. They also have 360° shielding for trouble-free data transfer, a breakaway function for maximum safety, and a non-reflective surface, and are keyed and color-coded for simple, reliable handling, sealed to IP68, resistant to salt spray, and rated for up to 5,000 mating cycles and operating temperatures extending from -51°C to +125°C. The series can terminate to PCBs, flex-layer, and rigid-flex solutions and is tested to military standards. Fully integrated cable assembly solutions are available, as are a full suite of complementary products and services.
BTC Electronics offers an extensive selection of circular hermetic connectors that meet the strict performance requirements for harsh-environment military and aerospace applications, including Sealtron’s D38999 Series III 9900 connectors. These hermetic connectors are supplied with a stainless steel body, EMI/RFI shielding, and gold plated contacts and provide excellent service in high-temperature, -humidity, -shock, and –vibration environments. They also have a triple-lead thread with a non-decoupling feature that enables quick disconnect and a scoop-proof design that prevents accidental contact bending and provides grounding for the plug and receptacle prior to the engagement of the pin and socket contacts. The series is also customizable, offering modifications including special shell dimensions, modified contact terminations, and specific plating finishes.
Positronic’s XAVAC, SAVAC, and HIVAC Series hermetically sealed D-Sub connectors provide rugged performance in demanding military, aerospace, and spaceflight applications. These rectangular, one-piece, panel-mount connectors feature brass or stainless steel shells, trapezoidal polarization, an optional locking system, fixed, gold-plated copper alloy contacts with 40N contact retention force, and two to four retention screws. They are resistant to shock and vibration, compatible with lead-free solder processing and RoHS 5/6, and are available in a wide range of configurations capable of accommodating standard-, high-, and mixed-density contact layouts with options for thermocouple, power, and coaxial contacts. All three series are rated for 300V working voltage and a minimum of 1,000V proof voltage, extending up to 2,700V for the XAVAC and SAVAC Series connectors. Those two series are also rated for 10–40A per contact, operating temperatures extending from -55°C to 125°C, and 500 mating cycles, while HIVAC Series connectors are rated for 7.5A per contact and operating temperatures spanning -40°C to 125°C. Positronic also offers custom-built hermetic flanges with an array of discrete hermetic connectors on a single plate.
Amphenol Military & Aerospace offers custom hermetic feedthroughs that deliver high-reliability performance in applications with gas-tight barriers or high-pressure differentials, including military and commercial aircraft, spacecraft, ground systems and vehicles, and avionics, naval systems, unmanned, C4ISR, missile, and missile defense systems. The feedthroughs are available in a range of materials, including stainless steel, titanium, and Iconel, and can be made to withstand pressures up to 60,000psi and temperatures extending from cryogenic to 1,000C. They can also offer EMI and EMP protection and compatibility with high-speed and fiber optic technologies.
