SMP and SMPM Connectors Product Roundup
This week’s Product Roundup highlights SMP and SMPM connectors from leading connector manufacturers and suppliers.
SMP and SMPM Connectors
Amphenol and Cinch SMP RF connectors, available at PEI-Genesis, are miniature, high-frequency coaxial connectors known for their push-on coupling mechanism. They offer reliable connections up to 40 GHz, making them ideal for high-speed data transmission in telecommunications, aerospace, and test equipment applications. SMP connectors feature a compact design and low RF leakage, ensuring efficient signal integrity even in dense installations.
SV Microwave’s newly expanded Edge Lock PCB connector line now includes small form, push-on SMP and SMPM connectors. With a fixture-less, conical-leg design, these connectors can ensure secure PCB edge retention and precise placement for optimal RF connectivity. Designed for high-frequency performance up to 65 GHz.
Heilind Electronics supplies SV Microwave’s new line of threaded SMPM connectors that feature a standard SMPM RF interface with a threaded coupling nut to ensure low mating and de-mating force. These threaded SMPM connectors are ideal for high vibration environments while still maintaining superior electrical and mechanical performance. The SMPM connector was developed to improve on the application density and operating frequency range of the SMP connector. Today, the SMPM connector is widely used in high density, high performance applications.
EZiCoax from Smiths Interconnect is a compact, high-performance coaxial connector designed to simplify and enhance high-frequency signal connections between printed circuit boards (PCBs). Using advanced spring probe technology and integrated into interposers, EZiCoax creates a solderless, compression-mount connection that eliminates the need for tools, reduces assembly complexity, and minimizes the risk of damage during installation. EZiCoax allows for quick, reliable, and repeatable connections, significantly lowering production and maintenance costs. Supporting board-to-board spacing as small as 3 mm, EZiCoax delivers exceptional performance up to 40 GHz with strong electromagnetic shielding and minimal signal loss. Its blind-mate feature ensures secure connections even when components are slightly misaligned, making it highly reliable in demanding environments. EZiCoax is suited for critical, high-frequency applications such as satellite communications, advanced radar systems used in defense, surveillance, and air traffic control, as well as emerging 5G and next-generation communication infrastructures that demand speed, precision, and robustness.
Samtec’s Magnum RF® product line features its SMPM multi-port mated sets with the new -S Screw option for threaded coupling. Cable assemblies are available with a .047” diameter low-loss flexible cable (GC47 Series) or with a .086” diameter low-loss flexible cable (GC86 Series). GC47 with .047” diameter cable offers greater flexibility with a 0.125” (3.18 mm) minimum bend radius and a higher maximum operating frequency. GC86 with .086” diameter cable, while still high performance, operates at a slightly lower frequency but with improved, lower insertion loss. Mating board connectors are available with a stub launch surface mount board termination (GPPC-ST-SL) or edge mount board termination (GPPC-EM). Optional in-line channel counts are 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 on a high-density .140” (3.56 mm) pitch. Combining multiple channels into a single housing provides 40% greater density, less processing time, and better positional alignment.
