Harwin’s Kona high-power connector series is now available with backshells. Made from an aerospace-grade 6061 aluminium alloy, these backshells will prevent unwanted EMI from leaking from the connector/cable assembly into the surrounding system. Compact and streamlined, but capable of carrying large currents (up to 60A per contact), Harwin’s 8.5 mm-pitch Kona connectors come in 2, 3, and 4 contact versions. Since their initial release in late 2020, these high-reliability components have become widely used in mission-critical applications, including new space, EVs, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and robotics. The two-part construction of the Kona backshells enables engineers to easily upgrade their existing cable assemblies with 360˚ EMC shielding. This capability is particularly beneficial if an EMI issue occurs late in the development process or when equipment already deployed in the field undergoes a retrofit only to reveal new EMI concerns. Board and panel mount connector options are also available to offer complete shielding. Kona backshells feature a robust construction to ensure long-term reliability in harsh environments. Installation requires no special tools, making assembly quick and easy. Additional strain relief on the braided cable helps eliminate the risk of damage to the assembly once installed and in operation. The backshells also come nickel-plated for extra protection against corrosion and oxidization in the field.

Amphenol Communication Solutions’ 1.0 mm pitch DirectAttached CEM (DA CEM) hybrid card edge solution with high-speed signal pins directly attaches to the cable to eliminate PCB trace loss and press-fit termination type power pins for better rework. Compared to typical PCIe riser card solutions, the DirectAttached CEM connectors provide SI loss improvement of 0.5 db to 1.0 db when used with a PCIe riser cable. Although the connector footprint differs from standard PCIe CEM, the mating interface meets standard PCIe AIC specifications and is backward compatible with Gen 4/3/2/1.

Amphenol RF’s 12G product line now includes a BNC jack-to-plug adapter. This coaxial adapter deviates from the standard bayonet coupling mechanism that is common to the standard BNC interface and instead offers push-on mating capabilities. The push-on coupling mechanism allows for quick and easy mating and unmating which is ideal for Test & Measurement applications in the broadcast space. The BNC jack to BNC push-on plug adapter is manufactured with a nickel-plated, brass body, gold-plated phosphor bronze contact, and PTFE insulator. This adapter supports traditional broadcast technology along with newer 4K ultra-HD products which require 12 Gb/s data transmission rates. The BNC jack end of the adapter features bayonet coupling for reliable and secure mating while the plug end uses the push-on method.

The Y-Lock Pullforce connector system from Yamaichi Electronics is a reliable and process-safe solution for applications with high requirements, especially for battery management or cell contacting systems in the automotive industry. The system will now be extended by version V4 with Connector Position Assurance and integrated contact protection for the FFC/FPC. The Pullforce System (Non-ZIF) of the Y-Lock features the intelligent One-Push locking mechanism, which is available in different versions. Here, the flexible flat cable (FFC) or the flexible printed circuit board (FPC) is inserted into the connector using the pre-assembled stiffener. In the V3 and V4 versions, the stiffener automatically engages in two steps, first via lateral locking hooks and in the next step via the double front locking. In October, Yamaichi Electronics will exhibit the Y-Lock Pullforce series at the ELIV Congress in Bonn, booth 151.
