Hirose Electric has enhanced its hybrid flexible printed circuit (FPC)-to-board connector product familyHirose Electric has enhanced its hybrid flexible printed circuit (FPC)-to-board connector product family with a 30-position ultra-low-profile version. The BK10 Series connector has a 0.5 mm stacking height and a 1.7 mm width that provides significant space savings. Combining a miniature design with a rugged, fully armored housing makes the BK10 Series ideal for a wide range of portable and wearable electronic devices. Its robust housing is covered by a metal shell to prevent housing damage due to misalignment when mating. Multi-point soldering enhances PCB peeling strength, while a dimpled lock design on the contacts provides a high extraction force. Both the power and signal contacts have a two-point contact design, ensuring high contact reliability. Easy mating is achieved via a wide self-alignment range of ±0.29 mm in the pitch direction and ±0.24 mm in the width direction. The hybrid BK10 Series offers 30 signal positions rated at 0.3A and two power contacts rated at 5A. The connector is commonly used for portable devices like audio players, cameras, laptops, and gaming consoles, as well as wearable devices like earbuds, smartwatches, and smart glasses.

Including three series: MCD, MCDD, and MCBX Series, MACH-D connectors offer precision-machined shells that provide EMI shielding and protection against shock, vibration, and impact. These IP67 D-Sub connectors offer standard and high-density signal contact arrangements as well as hybrid versions that combine power and signal in a single connector body.

Molex External Laser Source Interconnect System (ELSIS)The External Laser Source Interconnect System (ELSIS) is Molex’s first-to-market, pluggable module solution for co-packaged optics (CPO). ELSIS is a complete system of cage, optical, and electrical connectors with a pluggable module that uses proven technology to speed the development of hyperscale data centers. Molex is currently sampling the ELSIS hybrid optical electrical connector and cage system, giving engineers a head start on development and testing well ahead of industry adoption of CPO. Supporting design and development materials for the fully pluggable module system, including 3D models, technical drawings, and detailed specifications, are available now. Molex is targeting Q3 2023 for release of the fully integrated solution, which will enable companies to commercialize their designs and quickly ramp production as CPO acceptance scales. Molex used its existing optical and electrical I/O products as building blocks for ELSIS. This ensures known field performance and reduces the need for considerable engineering and testing. ELSIS also offers exceptional advantages as a comprehensive, all-in-one solution. External laser source systems comprise a complex mix of optical and electrical connectors, pluggable modules, internal host system fiber optic cabling, and cages. By designing all these elements in-house, Molex has created a complete, fully engineered system that obviates the lengthy design cycles needed to integrate these components. The result is a highly interoperable, high-performance system that gives designers and end users a plug-and-play experience.

Smiths Interconnect’s new qualified option, EasyREP for rail and industrial applicationsSmiths Interconnect’s new qualified option, EasyREP for rail and industrial applications, expands its range of environmentally sealed products for demanding environments. The REP series of multipole, sealed, plastic connectors, is known for its ability to provide a quick and secure connection for embedded equipment in a wide range of applications such as sensors, brakes, lighting, air conditioning, and communications, in the industrial, rail, Test & Measurement, automotive, and public works sectors. Its superior performance and high number of mating cycles (over 20,000) comes fromHypertac hyperboloid contact technology. Available in 2, 6 and 12 contact positions, the new EasyREP option features the MR contact, a screw machined contact of 1.5 mm diameter available for cross section cables from 0.75 to 2.5 mm² (18-13AWG).

Ironwood SG-MLF-7103 socketIronwood Electronics introduced a new high-performance elastomer socket for 1.27 mm pitch QFN package. The SG-MLF-7103 socket is designed for a 6.15 mm x 5.15 mm package size and operates at bandwidths up to 30 GHz with less than 1dB of insertion loss (GSSG configuration). The contact resistance is typically 20 milliohms per pin. Network analyzer reflection measurements for the G-S-S-G case were taken with all except the pins under consideration terminated into 50 Ohms. The socket is mounted using supplied hardware on the target PCB with no soldering and uses the smallest footprint in the industry, which allows inductors, resistors, and decoupling capacitors to be placed very close to the device for impedance tuning. The socket also incorporates a simple hardware installation method so ICs can be changed out quickly. The SG-MLF-7103 sockets are constructed with high performance and low inductance elastomer contactor. The temperature range is -35C to +125 C. The pin self-inductance is 0.118 nH and mutual inductance of 0.025 nH. Capacitance to ground is 0.229 pF and mutual capacitance is 0.025pF. Current capacity is 2 amps per pin.

September 2022 New Connectivity Products > Wire, Cable, and Cable Assemblies

Amphenol RF has expanded its AUTOMATE Type A Mini-FAKRA product seriesAmphenol RF has expanded its AUTOMATE Type A Mini-FAKRA product series with pre-configured cable assemblies. These assemblies feature a straight quad port mini-FAKRA jack on both ends and are designed on low loss TFC-302LL. AUTOMATE assemblies support data transmission rates up to 20 Gb/s which makes them ideal for automotive and industrial applications which require high data transfer rates to communicate information for safety, performance, and entertainment without lag. AUTOMATE Type A mini-FAKRA connectors are constructed with a closed entry cable interface which limits the size of mating parts to prevent contact damage during mating. A secondary locking mechanism known as terminal position assurance (TPA) ensures the body and contact are retained and fully seated in the housing. These connectors provide reliable electrical performance up to 9 GHz with low engagement forces for secure mating and easy installation. The rugged, impact-resistance body allows them to be utilized in harsh environments such as vehicles and factory settings. These assemblies are fully compatible with existing mini-FAKRA connectors commonly used in automotive applications. Custom cable assemblies and IP-rated sealed solutions are available by request.
