Reverse Polarity Connectors Product Roundup
This week’s Product Roundup highlights reverse polarity connectors from leading connector manufacturers and suppliers.
Reverse polarity connectors
The Amphenol RF BNC Straight Clamp Plug Reverse Polarity connector from PEI-Genesis is a robust, high-performance solution designed for RG-58 cables and 50 Ohm impedance systems. Ideal for applications in demanding environments, this connector is engineered to deliver reliable connectivity in a wide range of industries, including automotive, broadband, broadcast, medical, wireless, military aerospace, and industrial equipment.
This SMA Reverse Polarity 3 Hole Flange IP68 Jack from COAX Connectors features a black non reflective nickel and a gold-plated contact and PCB solder body. RF connectors are available in a variety of materials to suit the usage requirements and the application’s operating environment. Brass is the most common base material but those made with stronger base materials, such as stainless steel, generally permit rougher handling without the risk of reduced performance. They allow the connectors to operate at higher frequencies and are better able to withstand environmental and usage factors. Dielectric materials and surface finishes also affect the performance of RF connectors and their resistance to environmental damage. Dielectric materials such as Delrin are suitable for lower frequencies while the use of a material such as PTFE is a slightly better insulator and provides lower loss. Nickel and gold are frequently used connector finishes, suiting a wide variety of applications. Other surface finishes bring different benefits, such as non-reflective black finishes where reflections are undesirable, or passivated stainless steel, silver, and white bronze for higher frequency or harsh environment usage.
The Weidmuller Battery Connector (WBC) enables the connection of conductor cross-sections ranging from 16 mm2 to 95 mm2 on the connector side. The counterpart of the plug has a busbar to which the conductor can be easily attached on the device side using a cable lug. This design ensures a simple and efficient connection that covers a wide range of conductor cross-sections and simplifies handling on the device side. Weidmuller battery connectors feature a unique plug coding that ensures reverse polarity protection, minimizes the risk of incorrect connections, and protects against damage caused by incorrect polarity, i.e., connecting the positive (+) with a negative (-) receptacle in a power application.
Amphenol’s RP-SMA 50 ohm connectors from Avnet are semi-precision units. Utilizing a threaded interface, they provide excellent electrical performance from DC to 34 GHz and outstanding mechanical durability. Their SMA connectors feature stainless steel or brass construction and a ¼ – 36 threaded coupling, which offers high performance in a compact design. For phase array radar, test equipment, ILS landing systems and other instrumentation using phase matching techniques, SMA interconnects offer a precise and simple means of phase adjustment for microwave devices. Built in accordance with MIL-C-39012 and CECC 22110/111, SMA connectors can be mated with all connectors that meet these specification mating diameters regardless of manufacturer.
