The Top 100 Connector Manufacturers in 2022

By Lynda Nolen | September 19, 2023

A new Bishop & Associates report identifies the top 100 connector manufacturers of 2022. A deeper examining breaks the list down by region, market sector, and product type. See what companies made the cut.

The world’s top 100 connector manufacturers recorded 2022 shipments of $70.049 billion, up from 2021 shipments of $66,826 billion. This represented 83.3% of the worldwide connector market, down from 85.7% in 2021. The balance of the connector industry had 2022 shipments of $14.042 billion and represented 16.7% of the total market (14.3% in 2021).

In the past two decades, Bishop & Associates has identified more than 750 connector manufacturers. Even after the acquisition boom years of the 1990s, companies continue to expand their portfolios by acquiring smaller manufacturers, and approximately 48% of the companies that were in business in 2000 have been folded into other entities. We continue to discover additional connector companies, especially in China and other developing countries, as well as non-connector companies that are expanding their current product offering to include interconnect, or that are developing application-specific connectors to support other products. Many smaller companies are also combining under one umbrella to benefit from  the cost savings associated with volume purchasing, shipping, and reduced personnel costs.

In other regional observations, we continue to see a shift out of China. In 2022, two regions gained market share over 2021, North America and ROW. This was like 2021, where three regions gained market share: Europe, Asia Pacific, and ROW. Analyzing similar companies for 2021 and 2022, it shows the North American market share increased from 21.1% in 2021 to 22.5% in 2022, an increase of 1.4%. Europe decreased from 20.9% to 20.6%, a decrease of 0.3%, China decreased from 32.0% in 2021 to 31.5% in 2022, and Japan declined from 6.8% in 2021 to 6.2% in 2022, a decline of 0.6% (largely due to the decline of the yen against the dollar). Asia Pacific decreased from 14.6% in 2021 to 14.5% in 2022 a decrease in market share of 0.1%, and the ROW region increased from 4.6% in 2021 to 4.8% in 2022, an increase of 0.2%.

Top 100 Percent of 2022 Sales by Geographic Region

Bishop & Associates’ new market research report, The Top 100 Connector Manufacturers, takes a closer look at connector industry sales and the regions these sales are occurring in, what types of connectors they are manufacturing, and what markets are using the most connectors. A detailed examination of the Top 100 companies’ sales by manufacturer and region, with historical performance context, begins the report. A closer look at the Top 10 companies follows, with details about shipments by end-use equipment and sector, product categories, and regional sales. The world’s top 10 connector manufacturers recorded 2022 shipments of $45.142 billion. This was an increase of 8.4% from 2021 shipments of $41.654 billion. Four of the top 10 manufacturers were based in North America, three were based in Japan, one was based in China, one was based in Europe, and one was based in the Asia Pacific region. A look at the world’s second-tier connector manufacturers (ranked 11- 20) follows. These companies recorded 2022 shipments of $9.869 billion. This was up 11.9% when compared to 2021, when recorded shipments totaled $8.820 billion. Two of the second-tier manufacturers were based in Europe, two manufacturers were based in Japan, and two were based in China. Finishing out the second tier were three Asia Pacific-based companies and one U.S.-based firm.

There are many ways to identify top companies, and the report also provides a detailed breakdown of the Top 100 connector manufacturers by region of the world and market share, and the Top 50 by end use equipment category and product category.
