RF & Coaxial Interconnects Product Roundup
This week’s Product Roundup highlights RF & coaxial interconnects from leading connector manufacturers and suppliers.
RF & Coaxial Interconnects
SV Microwave’s SMPM-XT RF interconnects are designed to maintain reliable electrical performance, even when mechanical tolerances vary. These SMPM interconnects accommodate a greater degree of axial tolerance, ensuring repeatable board-to-board connections up to 12 GHz. This line features fixed length bullets and single, two-, and four-port mating halves with an extended interface, offering a complete board-to-board solution. Ideal for today’s most compact and demanding RF designs, they are a cost-effective alternative to spring bullets with a variety of bullet lengths available.
Smiths Interconnect’s semi-rigid cable assemblies provide customers with space qualified, high performance, mode free operation DC to 110 GHz with excellent shielding qualities. They are available with a copper or aluminum jacket, a selection of different platings, and four different diameters (.047”, .085”, .141” & .250”). High frequency RF cable assemblies are offered in a wide variety of flexible and semi-rigid cable types and are well-suited for satellite payloads (GEO/MEO and LEO constellations), deep space probes, ground antenna networks, and space robotic systems.
Heilind Electronics supplies MMCX Power-over-Coax (PoC) connectors from Molex that combine RF signal transmission (DC to 6 GHz) and DC power delivery in a compact, space-efficient coaxial interface. Engineered for miniaturized and demanding applications, they reduce cabling and connector count while improving system reliability through enhanced grounding and a secure full-locking mechanism. Backward compatibility with existing MMCX interfaces enables seamless integration, allowing engineers to upgrade designs without significant system changes while simplifying architecture and lowering overall complexity.
Winchester Interconnect’s Dynawave Semi-Rigid coaxial cables from CDM Inc. are engineered to deliver outstanding power handling and electrical performance in all environments, making them ideal for tactical applications that require high shock and vibration resistance. Dynawave semi-rigid cables feature advanced CNC machining with a tolerance of just 0.002 inches. This precision ensures exceptional phase matching capability, which is critical for high-performance applications. Options of copper or aluminum shielding can reduce weight by 30% without compromising performance, making Dynawave cables ideal for aerospace and other applications where every ounce counts. Dynawave semi-rigid cables offer low-loss and phase-stable options that utilize a low-density PTFE dielectric. This results in improved power handling and operation over a wider temperature range, providing superior phase stability compared to standard semi-rigid solutions.
As aerospace and defense systems demand more RF channels for radar, communications, and electronic warfare, board space has become a critical premium. Nicomatic solves this challenge by integrating high-frequency coaxial contacts directly into its rugged, high-density CMM (composite) and DMM (metal) series connectors. Rather than relying on multiple separate and bulky RF connectors, engineers can specify a custom hybrid layout that combines high-frequency coax, signal, and high-power contacts within a single, space-saving housing. Designed to withstand severe shock and vibration, these modular interconnects ensure exceptional shielding and RF signal integrity in harsh environments. With millions of possible configurations available and no long custom lead times, Nicomatic’s hybrid approach allows designers to achieve exact RF performance while optimizing SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power).
For signal integrity and low losses, Axon’ Cable designs and manufactures RF coaxial assemblies as well as microwave coaxial assemblies for frequencies up to 50GHz. Insulated with a FEP or PU jacket and terminated with coaxial connectors, the RF coaxial and microwave assemblies are suitable for either ground-based or onboard radar for avionics, defense, or space applications. To meet the harshest environment, Axon’ offers extra-flexible versions and lightweight microwave coaxial cable assemblies. Mechanical protection can be added too. For space applications, Axon’ Cable provides a range of ESA approved RF cable assemblies up to 32 GHz and up to 45 GHz.
Amphenol RF TNC connectors from PEI-Genesis feature a threaded coupling interface for secure, vibration-resistant RF connections with consistent electrical performance. Supporting up to 11 GHz and available in 50 Ω or 75 Ω versions, they are ideal for antennas, Test & Measurement, wireless infrastructure, and industrial RF systems.
Amphenol LTW (ALTW) offers RF connector solutions engineered for stable signal transmission in demanding industrial, communication, and mobility applications. Designed for reliable high-frequency performance, ALTW RF connectors support applications such as wireless communication systems, antennas, GPS modules, smart transportation, and industrial networking. The portfolio includes compact, durable designs with secure mating, excellent shielding effectiveness, and resistance to vibration, moisture, and harsh environments. Manufactured with precision and high-quality materials, ALTW RF connectors ensure signal integrity, low loss, and dependable performance, supporting next-generation connectivity requirements across diverse electronic and communication platforms.
The I-PEX MHF 7S is a fully shielded miniature RF connector that implements a stripline terminated signal pin within the receptacle’s ground contact. This design reduces unwanted EMI commonly found in antenna applications. For extremely sensitive systems, an additional SMT grounding clip can further enhance the RF shielding performance of the stripline to microcoaxial connector. MHF 7S has been deployed in wireless applications because of its 1.4 mm maximum mating height, small form factor (2.0 x 2.0 mm footprint), and frequency range up to 15 GHz.
Adam Tech’s RF connector series is a comprehensive assortment of radio frequency signal connectors in standard, miniature, subminiature, micro miniature, and surface mount styles. Included are BNC, TNC, FME, FMA, SMA, SMB, N, F, PAL, UHF, Mini UHF, MCX, MMCX, MHF, W.FL, and 1.6/5.6 coupling versions. Each has a standard industry interface. Most are ideal for applications where size and weight are important in densely populated applications. All afford excellent RF characteristics.
