Fiber Optics Product Roundup
This week’s Product Roundup highlights fiber optics from leading connector manufacturers and suppliers.
Fiber Optics
Nicomatic’s fiber optic interconnect portfolio delivers secure, high-speed data transmission with absolute immunity to electromagnetic interference for the most demanding aerospace and defense architectures. To address the growing bandwidth requirements in harsh environments, Nicomatic provides an end-to-end optical ecosystem spanning from the backplane to the external panel. VITA 66 optical backplane connectors are designed specifically for VITA architectures, are fully VITA 47-compliant, and feature a robust racking system. DMM optical connectors for rugged panel and I/O integration incorporate MT ferrules directly into its compact, low-profile metal shell. This allows high-speed optical data routing alongside traditional copper contacts. Nicomatic’s custom optical harnesses are fully personalized, turnkey optical cable assemblies. These plug-and-play solutions are designed and assembled in-house by specialized mechanical and electronic engineers, with quality guaranteed by an on-site IPC-A620 trainer.
Boston Micro Fabrication (BMF) precision fiber routing and alignment component is 3D printed using Projection Micro Stereolithography (PµSL). It delivers tight core-to-core alignment with fiber array holes down to 400µm and tolerances as tight as ±10 microns. Printing as a single part eliminates tolerance stack-up. This component is built for high-density networking, data center, and telecom applications where alignment determines signal integrity.
The KJMT Fiber Optic Series from ITT Cannon delivers a modular, cost-effective solution tailored for high-bandwidth, high-density applications in radar, electronic warfare (EW), communications, antenna/sensor systems, and embedded computing. Built to meet the rigorous demands of military and aerospace platforms, the KJMT Series combines robust performance with compliance to industry standards like VITA 87 and Sensor Open System Architecture (SOSA).
Samtec’s FireFly™ Micro Flyover® System embedded and rugged mid-board optical transceivers are available up to 28 Gb/s per lane via optical cable for greater reach. The industry-leading miniature footprint enables higher density near the data source. The simple-to-use system has easy insertion/removal and trace routing, no through-holes, and an SMT connector system. A rugged extended temperature design (ETUO, ETMO) is available for military and industrial applications. PCIe-Over-Fiber adaptor card supports transparent and non-transparent bridging (PCOA). FireFly supports data center, HPC, and FPGA protocols, including 10/40/100 Gb Ethernet, InfiniBand, Fibre Channel, PCIe, CXL, and Aurora.
Low loss fiber optic rotary joints (FORJ) from Amphenol Pcd enable high-bandwidth data transmission through continuous rotation. Single-mode and multi-mode configurations available. Insertion loss is <1.0 dB, wavelength is 850 nm to 1550 nm, and data rates are up to 40 Gb/s.
