Sharp and Lenovo Partner to Make Smart TVs in China
Japan’s Sharp Corp. and China’s Lenovo Group Ltd. will partner to develop and manufacture smart television sets in China. The two companies will jointly develop a 60-inch flagship model that the Chinese personal computer maker plans to release next month, Sharp officials in China said.
The Japanese electronics maker will manufacture the TV at a liquid crystal display TV plant in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. They will procure LCD panels for the model from a plant in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture, western Japan, which is jointly run by Sharp and Taiwan’s Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. The move comes as Sharp is in talks to sell the Nanjing plant to Lenovo as part of its turnaround efforts.
