HARTING Mitronics Collaborates
HARTING Mitronics, headquartered in Biel (Switzerland), and Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) in Germany have entered into a strategic partnership in order to enhance manufacturing processes and product creation in the field of molded interconnect devices (3D-MID). The Swiss manufacturer of MID components and systems wants to work with FAU’s Institute for Factory Automation and Production Systems (FAPS) in such areas as mechanical design, electronic circuit development, and reliability studies of mechatronic products.
HARTING Mitronics and FAPS at FAU are two partners commanding comprehensive know-how in this field. The Swiss company is the European market leader in the development and manufacture of MID components and systems, while the Institute for Factory Automation and Production Systems, headed by Prof. Dr. Jörg Franke, is one of the industry’s leading research institutes.
Albert Birkicht, managing director HARTING Mitronics, said, “The strategic partnership with FAU will assist us in expanding our technological leadership and handling additional demanding customer applications.”
Institute head Prof. Dr. Jörg Franke particularly appreciates the long-term basis for the partnership, which allows “new possibilities to align university research with the current requirements from the industrial world, to bring our own innovations into use quickly, and to offer motivated students fascinating assignments with practical relevance.”
